He began studying the guitar at the Conservatory of Orleans in the class of Olivier Chassain. He obtained a First Prize unanimously with honors and entered the National Conservatory of Music in Paris in the class of Alexander Lagoya. He graduated with a Premier Guitar price and the higher education diploma with honors.

Holder of Certificate of Aptitude, he teaches at the Conservatory of Rennes and at the Pont Supérieur since its inception.

Hervé Merlin is also a member of the Quartet Amanecer.
