Biography

The Montenegrin Guitar Duo composed of Goran Krivokapic and Danijel Cerović is frequently invited to eminent international venues around the world. Presenters including Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Festival Internacional de Musica y Danza de Granada, Kotor Art Festival, Koblenz Guitar Festival, A Tempo Music Festival, Shenyang International Guitar Festival and Daejeon International Guitar Festival regularly engage the Montenegrin Guitar Duo to give recitals, deliver lectures and master classes and to adjudicate important competitions. They also perform concerti for two guitars, such as Joaquin Rodrigo’s Concierto Madrigal.

The duo’s performances are always enthusiastically received, both by their audiences and the press. Their historically informed performances of their own arrangements for two guitars of J. S. Bach’s English Suites have received particular praise from the critics.

The Montenegrin Guitar Duo has a large repertoire, comprising transcriptions of ancient music and original compositions written in the 19th, 20th and 21st century, with a special emphasis on contemporary music written for two guitars. Their two principal aims are to broaden the guitar repertoire and to further integrate the guitar into chamber music.

In 2013 their debut CD was published by the Montenegrin Music Centre; the recording features works by Domeniconi, Piazzolla and Bogdanovic. Naxos released the first of two volumes of Bach’s English Suites, transcribed by the duo for two guitars, in 2015; this unique project – to transcribe and record the complete set – has received excellent reviews. English Suites Vol. 2 was recorded in October 2016 and will be released by Naxos in 2017.

Goran Krivokapic is a leading international guitarist.  A first prize winner at nineteen prestigious international competitions, his focus lies on the development of the guitar repertoire. He has performed all over Europe, North and South America, Asia, Africa and Russia, appearing at major concert halls such as the Tchaikovsky Hall in Moscow, Lubkowitz Palace in Vienna and Auditorio Conde Duque in Madrid.

Danijel Cerović lectures in guitar and chamber music at the Music Academy in Cetinje, University of Montenegro. A versatile solo and chamber musician, he is also on the artistic board of the Montenegrin Music Centre and the Montenegrin Symphony Orchestra. Danijel is an active contributor to the organisation of numerous international music events, and founded the Niksic Guitar Festival and competition.
