Biography
Founded in 2013 in Strasbourg, the Adastra Quartet emerged at the heart of Europe, guided by the aesthetics of the French sound and the interaction of cultures on both sides of the Rhine, through a cross-border repertoire. Its members, trained at the most prestigious institutions (CNSMDP, HEAR, Freiburg Musikhochschule, Lausanne HEM), combine excellence and diversity.
With a unique sensitivity blending modernity, tradition, versatility, and openness, the Adastra Quartet performs the great works of the repertoire while embracing a commitment to creation and transmission.
The quartet commissions original works and collaborates with renowned composers from all generations, such as Philippe Manoury, Sophie Lacaze, Pascal Dusapin, Xu Yi, Clara Olivares, Charles-David Wajnberg, Diana Soh, and David Hudry.
Selected for the "Tremplin pour Jeunes Quatuors" at the Philharmonie de Paris in 2016, the Adastra Quartet is a regular guest at international festivals. In 2017, it received the Audience Award and the Young Audience Award at the Moments Musicaux du Tarn, and in 2018, it was a laureate of the Fond’action Alsace.
Trained under the guidance of the Debussy Quartet and multiple times a scholarship recipient of the Flaine Music Academy and Festival, the quartet has participated in masterclasses at prestigious institutions such as Proquartet and ECMA. It has honed its craft with great masters of the genre, including Yovan Markovitch, Luc-Marie Aguera (Ysaÿe Quartet), Irvine Arditti, Hatto Beyerle (Alban Berg Quartet), and the Danel, Manfred, Parisii, and Ludwig quartets.
On the international stage, the Adastra Quartet performs in Switzerland, Luxembourg, Poland, and Croatia, as well as on major stages in France, such as the Philharmonie de Paris, the Opéra National du Rhin, Le Maillon, La Filature in Mulhouse, the European Parliament, the Musica Festival, the Musiques Démesurées Festival, and the Wissembourg Festival.
The quartet collaborates with numerous artists, including Pauline Haas, Wilhem Latchoumia, Anaïs Constans, José-Daniel Castellon, José-Maria Gallardo del Rey, Armand Angster, and Pascal Schumacher.
The Adastra Quartet is supported by the DRAC Grand Est, the City of Strasbourg, the National Music Center, the Maison de la Musique Contemporaine, SACEM, and SPEDIDAM. It is also an associate member of FEVIS.
